The Wakandaverse is all things Wakanda - the heroes, people, beliefs, technology, and art, all of which take inspiration from the African diaspora. The Black Panther film exponentially widened the fanhood of not just T’Challa, but his people and nation. It was more than entertainment - people saw themselves and perhaps just as importantly, each other, in new and beautiful ways.
Wakandaverse is a world-building activity where participants explore the lore of Black Panther through comics, books, and video games. The research is used to understand how culture and imagination are used to build stories. Then, new characters and scenarios are created by everyone involved.
While the cinematic Wakanda has done wonders, the vast lore of the comics is a wide well of stories waiting to be unleashed. The Intergalactic Empire brought five galaxies of Wakanda to the forefront, becoming a new frontier for our imaginations (for scale, that’s everything Star Wars is, times FIVE)! For that reason, we believe it must be handled with attention and care - Wakanda is a cultural resource.
The Wakanda Alliance has seen it bridge various diverse generations and ethnic groups. While we expect Marvel has great things planned for everything Black Panther, we came up with these suggestions to Marvel as fans, and members of the cultures, because we want to see the best Wakanda.
